IT designer charged with sex assault yet to take up bail

Father-of-two allegedly drove woman to secluded part of UCD before sexually assault

A software designer who was banned from using internet dating websites after he was charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Dublin has yet to take up bail.

Patrick Nevin (33), a father of two, allegedly met the woman in the city centre before driving her to a secluded part of the UCD campus on a date last July.

Last week a judge ordered that €2,500 had to be lodged before the man could be released on bail.

Mr Nevin appeared at Cloverhill District Court yesterday where Garda Declan Ryan told Judge Victor Blake that directions had to be obtained from the DPP. “Files are being prepared,” Garda Ryan said.

Defence solicitor Alan Doyle said there was “consent to four weeks” and after a statement of means was furnished to the court, Judge Blake granted legal aid to Mr Nevin.

Judge Blake said Mr Nevin was remanded in custody with consent to bail until October 22nd, when he would appear in court via video-link.

Mr Nevin, Meadowlands Court, Mountain Road, Dublin, is charged with sexual assault of the woman in the college grounds on July 23rd last. He denies the charge.
