A jury has failed to reach a verdict in the trial of a man accused of stabbing his former partner in Dublin more than a year ago.
The jury of six men and four women had been deliberating for more than 10 hours over three days, before the foreman told Mr Justice Paul McDermott that he did not believe further time would allow the jury to reach an agreement.
Vesel Jahiri (33), of Louth village, Dundalk, but originally from Kosovo, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Anna Finnegan (25) at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla, Dublin, on September 21st, 2012.
Mr Jahiri had also pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm on Ms Finnegan’s brother, Karl, on the same date.
When asked by the court if the jury disagreed on both counts one and two, the foreman replied “Yes.”
Mr Justice McDermott thanked the jury, saying they did not have to agree.
“You are entitled to disagree.
“These matters are not easy, as you can see.”
