The Courts Service intend to send out 1,500 jury summonses ahead of the trial of three former Anglo Irish Bank executives.
Sean Fitzpatrick (64), of Whitshed Road, Greystones, William McAteer (62) of Auburn Villas, Rathgar and Pat Whelan (50) of Coast Road, Malahide have been charged with 16 counts of providing unlawful financial assistance to individuals in July 2008 to buy shares in the bank.
The trial is set to begin in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on Monday January 13th and is expected to last between three and six months.
Today after a hearing concerning disclosure of evidence in advance of the trial Judge Martin Nolan informed the court that 1,500 jury summonses would be sent out with the expectation that 500 people will ultimately attend for the jury empanelling.
The date for jury selection is set for Friday January 10th next and the trial is due to begin the following Monday.
Diane Stuart BL, prosecuting, previously alerted the court that the State intends to apply for extra jurors under the amended Juries Act.
The new legislation, which came into effect in July, allows for up to 15 jurors to be sworn in for trials lasting longer than two months, up from the usual allowance of 12 jurors.
Judge Nolan will return judgement on the disclosure issue on Wednesday morning.
