Scene cordoned off after 41-year-old man found less than 100m from west Cork home

Gardaí investigating the discovery of a man’s body by a roadside are treating the fatality as sudden death pending the result of a postmortem.

The 41-year-old was found at about 11.30am on St Patrick's Day on the public road at Fahanalooscane near Ballinhassig village in west Cork. He was discovered less than 100m from the house where he lived alone.

Officers cordoned off the scene and Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster carried out a preliminary examination at the scene.

The body was then removed to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem by Dr Bolster.

Gardaí say there was no obvious sign of trauma on the man’s body.

The scene will be cordoned off overnight pending completion of the postmortem while officers are also trying to establish when the man was last seen alive.

They have appealed to anyone who may have any information that can assist them to contact Bandon Garda station on 023-88522200.
