A woman (18) has died following in a collision at Castlebar, Co Mayo on Thursday.
The young woman who has been named as Melissa Patterson went to Davitt College in Castlebar, Co Mayo and played for her local soccer team Castlebar Town FC.
In a post on their Facebook page, Melissa’s soccer team Castlebar FC paid tribute.

“Most people in the town will have heard by now of the tragic accident that occurred on the Breaffy Road yesterday evening. Melissa Patterson lost her life in this tragic accident. Melissa was a vital member of our local rivals and colleagues Castlebar Town FC, where she participated at a number of different age groups throughout the years.”
“Everyone at Celtic wish to extend their sincerest condolences to Melissa’s family, friends and team mates. Everybody at the club is thinking of you at this most difficult time.”
Gardaí said crash happened at around 5pm, at Carrownurlaur in Breaffy, on the N60 Castlebar to Claremorris Road.
The woman was taken to Mayo General Hospital where she died on Friday morning.
The driver of the vehicle, an 83-year- old woman, and a young male passenger were also taken to hospital as a precaution.
The road was closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination but has since reopened.
