Five people were arrested in Co Cork today as part of an investigation into fraudulent motor insurance claims.

Three men and two women, ranging in age from their 20s to 40s, are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda stations around the county. They can be held for up to 24 hours.

The arrests bring to 17 the number of people held as part of “Operation Nascar”, which is examining fraudulent insurance claims.

Seven others were arrested in the Midlands and Cork as part of the investigation last month.
