Five males in court charged over Tralee funeral violence

Four men and a 15-year-old boy charged with possession of slash-hooks and other weapons following a funeral in Tralee have been freed on bail.

The alleged incident is believed to be connected to an ongoing feud betweeen Travellers.

There was a large Garda presence, including armed members of the Regional Response Unit, outside Tralee District Court as the five accused were brought before the court.

Robert Faulkner (34) of Wellington Road, Cork was charged with having two Stanley knives with sharpened blades when arrested at Meanus, Castleisland on Tuesday, November 11th while Christopher Faulkner (18), from Blarney, was charged with having a claw hammer and slash-hook.

Arthur Faulkner (30) from Old Youghal Road, Cork, was charged with having a wrench and slash-hook to use in an incident of violent disorder and Wayne McCarthy (58) from Blarney was charged with having a slash-hook.

A boy (15) was charged in connection with the same incident. He cannot be named because of his age.

No reply was made to the charges, the court heard.

Judge James O’Connor released the five accused on bail . As part of their bail conditions, they were ordered to stay out of Kerry until their next court appearance in two weeks.
