Gang fires shots at gardaí during Co Wexford bank raid

Enniscorthy shooting came as gardaí responded to men robbing Ulster Bank branch

An armed gang fired at least one shot at gardaí in Co Wexford early this morning during a robbery.

The incident happened at Enniscorthy this morning when a Garda patrol car responded to the sound of a small explosion at the Ulster Bank branch on Rafter St in the town at around 3.30am.

They found at least three men attempting to rob the bank.

One man armed with a handgun approached the gardaí and fired at least one shot.

Two other raiders were then seen coming out of the bank with a quantity of cash.

The gang escaped in a black car in the direction of New Ross.

There are no reports of injuries following the incident. The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.
