Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a woman was stabbed in the head in Limerick city centre.

The woman (22), was sitting in a car on Dominick Street at 12.10pm yesterday , when a man, armed with a knife, approached the vehicle and attacked the woman.

The woman who’s from the city, received lacerations to her head and was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

Gardaí said it was a “savage” attack but that the woman’s injuries are not life threatening.

Her attacker is described as in his early 30s, wearing navy tracksuit bottoms, a white and light blue tracksuit top, and a white baseball cap.

Gardaí­ said he escaped on foot towards the Parnell Street area.

They­ conducted a forensic examination at the scene and are in the process of securing and viewing CCTV footage.
