The officer had approached a stationary vehicle on Dun Saithne Avenue just before 11pm last night, at which point the driver drove into the garda.

The officer remains in a stable condition in hospital, and his injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

The driver of the car was arrested.

Burglary investigation

The arrests came as part of an investigation into a burglary in the area on Saturday night. It has been confirmed the car involved in the incident had been stolen.

It is the latest in a series of recent crimes where gardaí patrolling roads have been injured or have come under attack from drivers acting suspiciously.

Another Garda received injuries to his hand in the early hours of Thursday when a group of men who were allegedly attempting to burgle houses in Glasnevin tried to ram a patrol car impeding their exit.

Two men were later arrested.
