Gardaí arrest man after body found in Co Cavan

Detectives question suspect (29) over death of man in his 30s in Cootehill

A man was arrested by gardaí today after the body of another man was found in Co Cavan with suspected stab wounds.

The dead man, named locally as Emmet Connolly, in his early 30s, of Rockcorry, Co Monaghan, was found at a house in the Lodge View estate in Cootehill at about 1.05am.

It is understood Mr Connolly had only recently returned to the country from Australia.

Two young children were in the house when the stabbing took place but did not witness the incident.

The scence remained sealed off this evening for a Garda technical examination and an examination by the State Pathologist.

A postmortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow to establish the exact cause of death.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death and is detained at Bailieboro Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
