Gardaí are investigating a series of irregularities at a north Dublin credit union amid reports that a suspected fraud of €400,000 took place at a lender in Whitehall.

Gardaí said they are investigating the irregularities which allegedly occurred at the Larkhill and District Credit Union between 2002 and 2013.

It was reported this morning that the credit union had to refund thousands of euro to members while consultants Grant Thornton have been appointed to estimate the extent of the fraud.

Gardaí said investigations into the matter were ongoing.
