Gardaí in Dublin have recovered a motorcycle which they believe may have been involved in the shooting of a 33-year-old man who subsequently fled to Store Street Garda station to escape his attackers.

The vehicle was discovered in Abercorn Road close to where the shooting took place. Gardaí are appealing for residents in the area who may have witnessed the motorcycle being abandoned to contact them at Store Street garda station.

They are looking for two individuals, both of whom were wearing helmets during the shooting, which took place on Sheriff Street last night.

The man, who received a gunshot wound to the back of the head, was today described as being in a serious but stable condition in the Mater Hospital.

The incident, which resulted in a part of Sheriff Street, Amiens Street and Store Street being closed off for a period last night, began at around 9.30pm.

The 33-year-old, who is known to gardaí, was shot through the window of the car he was driving, a silver Mercedes. The back windscreen of the car was blown out in the attack.

The man fled his attackers in his car which veered onto the footpath near Store Street Garda station near Busáras and the Red Luas line.

He was witnessed running into the Garda station clutching his stomach and head where he informed gardaí that he had been shot.

He was treated by ambulance personnel outside Store Street Garda Station before being brought to the Mater Hospital for further treatment.
