Man in his 50s held after cash and equipment seized following searches in north Co Dublin

A man in his fifties is in custody following the seizure of a large amount of counterfeit currency with a reported face value of €10m.

Members of the garda special detective unit searched a lock up premises in the Baldoyle area of north county Dublin yesterday and recovered a large amount of counterfeit currency.

Searches were subsequently carried out in the Coolock and Artane areas and printing and computer equipment was seized.

The searches were carried out as a result of information received by investigating gardaí.

One male aged in his fifties was arrested and is currently detained at Coolock Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The latest raids come just over two months after counterfeit €50 notes worth €2.1 million were seized in a Garda operation in Dublin and Meath.

The sophisticated operation was found in February when gardaí raided a residential property in north Dublin and followed up with a related search of commercial premises in Co Meath.
