Gardaí name man killed in Co Kildare shooting

Murder inquiry opened after fatal attack on 20-year-old at housing estate in Athy

Gardaí investigating a fatal shooting in Co Kildare yesterday have named the victim .

Jamie Lindsay (20), who was originally from Dublin but had an address at Coney Meadows, Coneyboro, Athy, was shot at Coney Greenat 8.45pm last night.

He was rushed to Naas General Hospital where he later died.

Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the killing.

A postmortem was carried out today by deputy State pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

Although the dead man was known to gardaí, a Garda source said he was not a major player in the criminal world.

Gardaí said the scene has been sealed off pending a full technical examination.

A family liaison officer has been appointed and the family have been fully briefed, a Garda spokesman said.

The spokesman said gardaí had launched a full murder investigation and were appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Gardaí would like anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Coneyboro area between 8pm and 9pm or between Coneyboro and Leinster Street area last night to contact the incident room at Athy Garda station.
