Gardaí investigating an apparent car bomb explosion in Dublin city last night have appealed to a taxi driver who may have picked up a fare from an injured man.

They believe the taxi driver picked up a male passenger who was injured and bleeding at 11pm last night on New St./Clanbrassil St junction, Dublin 8 heading towards St Patricks Catherdal.

The Army bomb disposal squad and the Gardaí were called to Long Lane, Dublin 8 shortly before 11pm last night after residents in the area reported an explosion which left a car ablaze.

No one was injured in the incident but it is understood some houses close to the car suffered minor damage.
