Gardaí seize €150,000 of cannabis at Cavan growhouse

160 plants growing in artificial conditions discovered along with harvested cannabis

Cannabis believed to have a street value of €150,000 has been seized at a growhouse close to the Cavan-Longford border following an extensive Garda surveillance operation.

A warrant to search the property had earlier been obtained after sworn evidence by investigating gardaí.

Members of the Cavan drugs unit and local gardaí, backed up by the divisional surveillance unit, raided the house beside Lough Gowna in Co Cavan.

It is understood gardaí had been watching it for some time.

Extensive preparation

Inside they found a total of 160 cannabis plants growing in artificial conditions that had necessitated extensive preparation.

An amount of harvested cannabis was also seized in the operation.

A number of other items including drugs paraphernalia was also removed from the house.

The seized material has been forwarded for analysis by the State Laboratory.

A man detained at the scene was taken to Cavan Garda station for questioning.
