A total of 60,000 cigarettes, €55,000 in cash and 30kg of tobacco were seized in the Watergrasshill area of Cork last night.
The cigarettes and tobacco have an estimated total retail value of €38,560 and represent a potential total loss to the exchequer of €31,342, according to the Revenue.
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service, assisted by gardaí, made the seizures.
A saloon car and the unstamped cigarettes were seized from an Irish national in the Watergrasshill area. The Capital, Elite Gold and Walton branded goods have an estimated retail value of about €28,000 and represent a potential loss to the exchequer of €23,000, the Revenue said.
In a follow-up search at a private home in the East Cork area, a Revenue "tobacco and cash" dog uncovered 30kg of Amber Leaf and Samson roll-your-own tobacco along with €55,000 in cash, which was detained under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2005.
The tobacco has an estimated retail value of €10,560 with a potential loss of to the exchequer of €8,342, the Revenue added.
Investigations are ongoing.
