Expert forum on European Aid law
The Irish Centre for European Law and the European State Aid Institute are holding a conference entitled Special Experts’ Forum on European State Aid Law on February 12th in the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin.
Speakers include Supreme Court judge Mr Justice Nial Fennelly, former Advocate General of the European Court of Justice; High Court judge and former judge at the European Court of First Instance, Mr Justice Cooke; Aindrias Ó Caoimh, judge of the European Court of Justice, Luxembourg; Conor Quigley QC, Brick Court Chambers, London and Brussels, and Anthony M Collins SC. Disability yearbook
The European Yearbook of Disability Law (Vol 1), an annual collaborative project between NUI Galway and the University of Maastricht, will be launched this Friday, January 29th, at 4pm at NUI Galway in Room MY 129, Áras Moyola, North Campus.
Hywel Ceri Jones, co-chair of the Consortium of European Foundations (Philanthropies) on Human Rights Disability (Brussels), will formally launch the yearbook, and Prof Gerard Quinn, director of the Disability Law and Policy Centre, will also speak.
Launch of rights information pack
The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) will launch a public information pack on criminal justice and Garda powers tomorrow, January 26th, in the office of solicitors Garrett Sheehan and Partners, Cunningham House, 130 Francis Street, Dublin 8, at 6.30pm. Know your Rights will be available following the launch on the ICCL website and from citizens’ advice bureaus and other information providers.
‘Report card’ to rate Government
The Children’s Rights Alliance will grade the Government on its progress in implementing its promises to children at the launch of the Children’s Rights Alliance Report Card 2010 in European Union House, Dublin, at 11am today.
This year’s report card will grade the Government on its progress in relation to the Ryan Report Implementation Plan, education, health, material wellbeing and safe-guarding children, and the research and grades have been verified by an external assessment panel.
Mental health law book
Mental Health Law and Practice: Civil and Criminal Aspects by Darius Whelan of UCC has just been published by Thomson Round Hall. It examines the legal process of dealing with people with mental disorders, from voluntary and involuntary admission to hospital to the role of doctors and psychiatrists. It runs to 537 pages, is in hardback and costs €265.
