Seminar on child and family law here and in US
An informal seminar on topical issues in child and family law and policy in Ireland and the US will take place on Saturday, February 12th, at the Dublin Institute of Technology on Aungier Street.
The panellists will include Prof Linda Elrod, editor of the US Journal, Family Law Quarterly and Fulbright Scholar DIT; Prof Kris Miccio, University of Denver, Sturm College of Law and Fulbright Scholar, UCD; Geoffrey Shannon, solicitor and State rapporteur on child protection; Paul Ward BCL, LLM, senior lecturer, UCD school of law, and Dr Fergus Ryan of the Dublin Institute of Technology. The seminar will be moderated by Carol Coulter, Legal Affairs Editor of The Irish Times.
Topics to be discussed include: Relocation and Child Abduction; Mandatory Arrest Orders and Domestic Violence; the Welfare and Rights of the Child in Ireland - the Case for Reform; the Crisis of Children in Care, and Parental Rights in Same-Sex Relationships.

Backing rule of law in developing states
Last Thursday saw the launch of the Pamodzi Promoting Rule of Law project in Ireland – a joint initiative of the Law Society of Ireland and the Bar Council of Ireland dedicated to promoting the rule of law in developing countries.
Pamodzi is committed to implementation of the rule of law as a means of tackling global injustice and empowering all people to live in a society free from inequality, corruption and conflict.

Seminar on LLM study in US
A seminar for law students and young lawyers, “Why Study for an LLM in the US?”, hosted by Georgetown University Law Center in Washington DC, will take place in the Westin Hotel, Westmoreland Street, Dublin 2, on Monday, February 7th, at 5pm.
