Conference on affirmative action
The School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast is hosting a seminar entitled “Affirmative Action: Achievements, Challenges and Opportunities” on Friday June 25th from 1pm-3pm in seminar room 1, Institute of Governance, Queen’s University.
The event will be chaired by Prof Colin Harvey, the head of school of law at QUB. speakers include Prof Christopher McCrudden of the faculty of law at the University of Oxford, Evelyn Collins, chief executive of the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland, and Prof Terence Gomez, of the faculty of economics and administration at the University of Malaya.
The event is open to the public.
LLM in European law at UCD
A new LLM in European Law and Public Affairs will start in the UCD school of law this September.
Students will take core modules in law and politics with students from its sister MEconSc programme in the school of politics, as well as a range of advanced law modules that will deepen their knowledge and capacity for legal analysis in European law.

Summer schools on human rights
The Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI Galway will host two summer schools. The first, “Minority Rights, Indigenous Peoples and Human Rights Law”, will take place from next Monday to Friday. The following week, , the centre will run a summer school on the International Criminal Court.

Arbitration group
A new association, Arbitration Ireland, was launched last week as the Arbitration Act 2010 came into force.
Its aims include promoting Ireland as a venue for arbitrations, engaging with persons of Irish descent living abroad to do so; bringing together all those who practise in the field, and holding regular seminars to promote Ireland as a centre of excellence in arbitration.

Competition law half-day seminar
Public Affairs Ireland is holding a half-day seminar on competition law and public policy next Thursday from 9am to 1 pm, at its training centre at 25 Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1.
The seminar is followed by lunch.
