Human rights posters to be displayed
Tomorrow the Irish Human Rights Commission and the Law Society of Ireland will officially open Human Rights - Framed by Young People, an exhibition of human rights posters by Civil, Social and Political Education (CSPE) students from schools in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Tipperary and Westmeath, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The posters will be on display from tomorrow until Friday at the President's Hall of the Law Society. The exhibition will be accompanied by a variety of human rights-related activities, including workshops. A full programme is available from the Irish Human Rights Commission and the Law Society.

Course for legal executives
Griffith College, in conjunction with the Irish Institute of Legal Executives (IILEX), now provides specialist legal training courses for those wishing to pursue a career as a legal executive. The course will give students an academic grounding in traditional core legal studies while also focusing specifically on the role of a legal executive in a work environment. The diploma in professional legal studies is a two-year course. After year one, successful students will be awarded a certificate in the discipline, and once year two has been completed, students will be awarded a diploma. No legal qualifications are required for the course.
Legal history of Offaly published
Legal Offaly: the county courthouse at Tullamore and the legal profession in County Offaly from the 1820s to the present day, by Michael Byrne, has just been published by Esker Press.
Mr Byrne is a partner in Hoey and Denning Solicitors in Tullamore, and secretary of the Offaly Historical and Archeological Society.
The book describes how the transfer of the assizes to the new courthouse built in Tullamore in 1835 consolidated the town's position as the county capital and recalls many leading figures from the legal profession in the county. It costs €30.
Family law conference
The Four Jurisdictions Family Law Conference is taking place in Belfast at the end of January, and will discuss the effects of the "credit crunch" and "economic downturn" on family law litigation. The Family Lawyers Association, which has 300 members in the Republic, can be contacted for further details.
