High Court to sit at new Ardee centre
The High Court will sit in Ardee for the first time, following the opening of a new courthouse in the Louth town last week. The new courthouse forms part of a €4.7 million civic centre, which also contains offices for Louth County Council and the Office of Public Works.
According to the Courts Service, the president of the High Court, Mr Justice Richard Johnson, has decided to use the new facilities to bring the High Court to Ardee for the first time. This will be combined with the usual business of the court.
The president of the Circuit Court, Mr Justice Matthew Deery, said at the opening: "This is not just a one-off or ceremonial sitting but in the coming weeks full hearings and cases of the High Court will be transferred here to make best use of this new resource," This is also expected to take pressure off High Court facilities in Dublin, and help reduce the High Court lists.
The new courthouse includes a non-jury courtroom, a legal practitioners' room, prisoner holding facilities, and judges' chambers.
