Conference on sexual violence

On Friday June 27th, the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, UCC, will host a one-day international conference on Reforming Laws on Sexual Violence: International Perspectives.

The conference will bring together international experts from Sudan, Timor-Leste, South Africa, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sierra Leone, Canada, the Netherlands, the USA and Ireland to examine recent developments and law reform initiatives in response to crimes of sexual violence.

Forensic Science seminar

Solicitors now have access to a wide range of forensic science relating to mobile phone records and mobile phone site analysis, the forensic examination of documents, the examination of computer-based evidence including storage devices, linked files, e-mail and file transfers, and DNA evidence, according to Robert Eagar, of Garrett Sheehan and Partners.

This has radically changed the profession's view of this area of knowledge.

Accordingly the firm, along with Keith Borer and Associates, is hosting a seminar on this topic in the Law Society's Education Centre in Blackhall Place, Dublin 7, on Thursday next, June 5th, from 5.30 to 7.30pm. Admission is free.

EU Antitrust White Paper

On April 2nd, 2008, the European Commission released its White Paper on damages actions for breach of EC antitrust (competition) rules.

The Institute of European Affairs is hosting a seminar on this White Paper at 12.45pm on Friday next, June 6th, in its offices in North Great George's Street, Dublin.

The expert panel includes a senior representative of the commission project team, Dr Rainer Becker, DG COMP, European Commission; a senior government policy adviser from the Netherlands, Fanny-Marie Brisdet; and a leading Irish competition lawyer in private practice, Dr Vincent Power of AL Goodbody.

Dr Stanley Wong, member of the Competition Authority will moderate dialogue among panellists with contributions from the audience.
