A man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman’s body in Co Wicklow.
The woman’s remains were found under a tarpaulin in a shed on a farm at Killoughter which is north of Ashford and close to the N11 Wexford to Dublin Road.
The deceased, Anne Shortall (47) from Wicklow town, was the subject of a missing person’s investigation. She was last seen at about 4pm on Friday at Leitrim Place in Wicklow town.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy was expected to visit the scene on Tuesday evening to carry out a preliminary postmortem. The area where the body was found was sealed off to allow for a forensic examination.
Ms Shorthall’s body was removed from the scene shortly before 8pm.
A Garda search team is also examining a coastal area known as the Morrough on the northern fringes of Wicklow town.
Gardaí said a man (38) was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the investigation and is being detained at Wicklow Garda station under provisions of Section 4 - Criminal Justice Act 1984.
