Man (53) arrested over Co Derry murder of woman (37)

Police say victim and suspect were holidaying in Limavady area

PSNI detectives investigating the stabbing to death of a woman outside Limavady, Co Derry, on Monday, July 12th, have arrested a man (53) on suspicion of murder.

The victim (37), whose name has not yet been released, and the suspect were holidaying in the area at the time of the stabbing, police said on Tuesday.

Det Chief Insp John Caldwell said that just after 8.20 pm on Monday police received a report that a woman had been stabbed at an outdoor accommodation site on Seacoast Road near Limavady.

"Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service but, sadly, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene," he said.

“A man, aged 53 years old, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of her murder, and he remains in custody this morning,” said Det Chief Insp Caldwell.

He added, “While our enquires are at an early stage, I can confirm that both the victim, and the man who was arrested were holidaymakers, and that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this tragic death.”
