A 32-year-old man was arrested in south Belfast following a car hijacking last night.
The car was parked outside a supermarket in the Ormeau Road area at about 9.40pm when the hijacker got in the driver’s seat and pushed a man who was sitting in the passenger seat out.
The thief then drove away.
Police stopped the car a short time later in the Verner Street area and arrested a suspect. He remains in police custody.
The incident was unrelated to overnight disturbances in Belfast, in which eight PSNI officers were injured and eight people were arrested.
The PSNI is seeking witnesses to the hijacking and is asking people with any information to contact Musgrave Police Station on 0845 600 8000 or independent charity Crimestoppers and speak anonymously on 0800 555 111.
