Police in Northern Ireland investigating the murder of former IRA member Eamon Collins 15 years ago have arrested a 56-year-old man.
Mr Collins was beaten and stabbed to death in Co Down, in January 1999 and may also have been deliberately struck by a car.
His body was found on a country road a short distance from his home in the Barcroft estate in Newry.
He was arrested twice in the 1980s and went on to become a so-called “supergrass”.
The man was arrested in Co Armagh yesterday morning, days after two men, aged 42 and 55, were released unconditionally following their arrest last week.
The 56-year-old man was arrested by detectives from Serious Crime Branch and taken to Antrim police station for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said: “I continue to ask those with information about Mr Collins’ murder, particularly those in the Barcroft estate, to think again about the awfulness of what happened and about the Collins family.
“It is never too late to come forward.”
