A 33-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged in connection with the murder of a prison officer in Co Armagh in 2012. David Black (52) was shot dead as he drove to work along the M1 motorway in November 2012.
Seán McVeigh from Victoria Street, Lurgan, County Armagh, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court charged with his murder. Detectives arrested Mr McVeigh in Lurgan in Co Armagh on Monday.
He is also charged with having an AK47 rifle with intent to endanger life.
From Cookstown in Co Tyrone, Mr Black was on the M1 motorway en route to Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim when he was shot. The Toyota Camry car used in his killing was later found burnt out in Lurgan.
Two other men, on either side of the Border, face charges linked to the purchase and movement of the Toyota Camry.
A PSNI spokeswoman said the force wanted to thank the Garda for its help and support throughout a “difficult and complex” investigation.
Mr McVeigh is due to appear in court again later this month, via video link, on February 28th.
