Man dies after New Year’s night assault in Tallaght

Man and woman charged with violent disorder in relation to incident

A man who was attacked by up to six people has died from his injuries.

The 20-year-old had been fighting for his life since he was viciously assaulted on a pedestrian bridge at Priorsgate, Saint Dominic’s Road, Tallaght at around 4am yesterday.

Gardaí said the man, named locally as Dale Creighton, died this afternoon.

He had been taken from the scene to the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Tallaght, before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

Two men aged 27 and 23 respectively were arrested this afternoon and are currently detained at Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Two others, Graham Palmer (24) with an address at Homelawn Road and Aisling Burke (20) of Bolbrook Grove in Tallaght were both charged at the Criminal Courts of Justice earlier today with violent disorder in relation to the incident.

This charge is expected to be upgraded following the death of Mr Creighton from his injuries.

Another man who was arrested on Wednesday night remains in Garda custody.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have been in a fast food restaurant in the vicinity of the Square in Tallaght from about 2am and who may have witnessed the incident, or who can assist with the investigation to contact them at 01- 6666000, on the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
