A 22-year-old man is due to appear in court on Saturday morning on a manslaughter charge in relation to the death of a 37-year-old homeless man in Cork city earlier this week.

The man will appear at a special sitting of Cork District Court in relation to the death of French national Vincent Morgain (37), who passed away in the Mercy University Hospital in the city on Tuesday.

Mr Morgain was drinking with up to eight other people on Lower Oliver Plunkett Street at about 2.30pm on September 10th when he was injured.

He was then rushed by ambulance to the Mercy University Hospital.

Life-support machine

Mr Morgain was put on a life-support machine, but died on Tuesday after his family gave permission for the machine to be switched off.

Gardaí under Supt Tom Myers of Anglesea Street Garda station began an investigation.

They arrested a 22-year-old man in the Oliver Plunkett Street area at about 7pm on Friday.

He was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act for questioning about the assault on Mr Morgain.

A native of Brittany, Mr Morgain had been working for a time as a chef in Killarney, but had been living rough in Kerry before moving to Cork last year.
