Customers at a pub in Drogheda tackled an armed robber after two raiders threatened staff with a knife and shotgun.

Two men armed with a knife and a shotgun entered the premises on the Marsh Road at about 8.15pm last night and held up staff, a Garda spokesman said.

“One of the raiders was a held at the scene when customers intervened, the second male fled the scene. A small amount of cash taken during the raid was later recovered,” he said.

A customer and a staff member injured during the incident were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old man arrested at the scene is being held at Drogheda Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí said the investigation was ongoing.
