Some 62 people have lost their lives on Irish roads so far this year.

A man in his late 20s has died following a road collision on Tuesday morning near Kilmacthomas in Co Waterford.

Tuesday morning’s road fatality brings to 62 the number of deaths on Irish roads so far this year.

The number of road deaths is up on this time last year, when 50 people had died on Irish roads by May 2015.

A total of 166 people lost their lives on Irish roads last year.

The lone male driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene after his car collided with a truck on the N52 after Kilmacthomas at about 7.50am on Tuesday.

The driver of the truck did not require medical attention.

The man’s body has been removed to University Hospital Waterford.

Diversions are in place at the scene of the incident pending the arrival of forensic collision investigators.
