A man was stabbed to death during a domestic row in the early hours of Sunday morning, gardaí believe.
The man's body was discovered in an apartment at The Maltings, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, at around 2.30am .
Garda sources said the man’s body was found in a hall on the ground floor of the apartment.
No weapon has been recovered but a forensic examination inside the house is continuing.
A 44-year-old woman, believed to be the man’s girlfriend, was arrested in connection with his death.
A Garda source said they believed the tragedy was sparked by a domestic incident which took place inside the apartment.
“We have one person detained. It looks like a domestic situation. They were living together.”
The source confirmed the couple did not have children together.
“The house is still sealed off to allow for a Garda forensic examination.”
The man’s remains were removed from the apartment earlier to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem will take place.
The garda source said the man’s name would not be released until all next of kin were informed.
“There is an issue contacting his family, as there are some abroad. He has siblings here in Ireland,” the source added.
