A man is in serious condition in hospital following an assault on Saturday morning in Dublin, according to gardaí.

Emergency services were called to Park View Apartments at Harold’s Cross at about 4am on Saturday morning where the injured 57-year-old was discovered.

He was taken to St James’s Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as serious.

Gardaí say a suspect may have left the scene in the direction of Terenure. Investigators are now checking CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident or anyone who was in the Harold's Cross area of Dublin between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday morning to contact them at Rathmines Garda Station on 01 666 6700.
