A man in his thirties has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Dublin on Friday night.

The female victim in her forties was crossing the road on foot at a junction on Davitt Road in Drimnagh, near the Goldenbridge Luas stop, when she was hit by a dark-coloured car.

The vehicle did not stop and left the scene in the direction of the Naas Road and there were reported sightings of the car on the Fonthill Road, at Newlands Cross, and in the Nangor Road and Firhouse areas.

Gardaí said the man was arrested in the Driminagh area of Dublin yesterday evening and is being questioned at Sundrive Road Garda station.

Gardaí added that they were still looking for the car involved in the collision, described as dark coloured, possibly a Ford Focus with either an 08 or 09 registration.

It is understood the car would have damage to the front and to the windscreen.
