The attack is understood to have taken place at about 3.20am on Thursday in a park area of Newlands Cross.

The woman had a bicycle with her at the time of the attack. She was hospitalised after the incident.

Gardaí appealed on Thursday for anyone who may have been in the Ronanstown area to come forward.

They also asked drivers with dashcams who may have been in the area to review the footage for anything that could be suspicious.

Local People Before Profit councillor Madeleine Johansson, called on anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

“I wish to offer my sincere solidarity and support to the victim of this horrendous crime. The news emerging that this rape was committed by more than one person and by strangers in an open space makes this crime particularly frightening, and leaves the community feeling vulnerable,” she said.

“The people of Clondalkin as seen by posts on social media are horrified and in shock. I wish to make a public appeal that anyone with information no matter how insignificant they may think it is, to please come forward.”
