Mother and her son have been arrested in connection with the death of James Cahillane in Co Kerry last year.

The body of Mr Cahillane (58) was discovered on April 19th by members of the fire service responding to a fire at his home in Killorglin. He was initially thought to have died of smoke inhalation, but a postmortem revealed he suffered injuries consistent with an assault.

A man in his late 20s and a woman in her early 50s were arrested this morning in Killorglin.

The man is being detained at Tralee Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, and the woman is being detained at Killarney Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences of the State Act 1939.
