Motive sought in shooting of father and son

Garda forensic teams were yesterday examining the scene of a shooting in west Dublin in which a father and son were targeted.

Detectives are working to establish a motive for the attack which occurred on Thursday night at about 10.20pm, with no immediate indication that the incident was gang-related.

The two men, one aged 53 and the other in his early 20s, received gunshot wounds and were brought to St James’s Hospital for treatment.

The father’s injuries were far more serious than those of his son, who has since been discharged, but not life-threatening .

Gardaí continued to seal off the area around the house on Clifden Drive in Ballyfermot with ongoing technical and forensic examinations of the scene under way.

They say they are looking for information on a black Audi A4 saloon car which was seen in the area with a partial registration of 08 D.

Anyone who may have spotted the vehicle or witnessed suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Clifden Drive is being asked to contact them.

Local councillor Brid Smith said: "It wouldn't be an area that is renowned for problems but lots of things happen in Ballyfermot in roads and places where you are surprised by it."
