The search follows the report of an otter being caught in a trap in the area in October.

“A wildlife crime involves any action against any protected wild animal or plant which contravenes current wildlife or animal welfare legislation protecting Northern Ireland’s wild animals and plants,” Chief Inspector John Allen said.

“Those who intentionally kill, injure or disturb protected wild animals need to be aware that you face the very real potential of being brought to justice.”

Chief Inspector Allen said if evidence of a criminal offence is found the offender will be reported to the Public Prosecution Service with a view to a prosecution.
