Pensioner dies in Mayo after being struck by car

Elderly man in his 80s taken to hospital on Saturday, but died of his injuries on Monday

A pensioner who was injured after being struck by a car in Co Mayo on Saturday has died.

The man, who was aged in his late 80s, was hit by the vehicle while walking on the old N5 road near Charlestown at around 6.45pm on Saturday.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Mayo but died of his injuries on Monday, gardaí have confirmed.

The occupants of the car involved in the collision were unharmed. Investigations are ongoing.
