Evacuated residents are returning to their homes following an explosion in Cathedral Road, Armagh.

At about 7.20am on Sunday, the PSNI received a report of damage to four cars in the yard of a business premises in the area.

Officers discovered the damage had been caused by a blast at 12.40am on Sunday, after a person wearing a backpack left a pipe bomb device at the scene at 12.30am.

A security alert was put in place.

The ATO attended the premises and the exploded viable object was taken away for examination.

Appeal

Det Insp Will Tate said: "I would ask anyone who has any information about this incident to contact detectives at Lurgan police station on the non-emergency number 101.

“If someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800-555111.”

All roads in the surrounding area apart from a small section of Cathedral Road have since reopened.

No injuries have been reported following the incident.
