A police officer in Northern Ireland has been suspended from duty after being arrested on suspicion of possessing a class A drug.

The male officer was detained on Wednesday in Belfast as part of an investigation, the PSNI said.

“He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries and has been suspended from duty,” a spokesman said.

It is understood the arrest is not linked to a separate investigation into the suspected drug deaths of eight people in Northern Ireland in recent weeks.
