A suspected armed robber was caught by members of the public after a hold-up at a convenience store in Co Offaly yesterday.
A second man was also arrested in connection with the incident in Geashill.
Gardaí said two men wearing balaclavas and armed with a knife entered the shop at about 7.45pm and threatened staff before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“One of the males was apprehended by two members of the public as he left the store and was arrested by gardai minutes later,” a spokesman said.
“The second male fled the scene in a car. During a follow-up operation a car was intercepted by gardai near Portarlington and a second male was arrested.”
A knife and all of the money taken was recovered, he added.
The men are being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Tullamore Garda station.
