Teenager arrested after man (33) fatally stabbed in Finglas

Man (18) being detained after Wesley Mooney killed on Dunsink Lane in north Dublin

A 33-year-old father-of-two has died in a stabbing incident at a halting site in Finglas, north Dublin.

The man has been named locally as Wesley Mooney from Abbottstown Drive in Dublin. He died from a single knife wound during an incident just after midnight at St Joseph’s Park, Dunsink Lane, Finglas.

Paramedics arrived after the stabbing but were unable to revive Mr Mooney.

The site of the incident was sealed off for forensic examination. A postmortem is expected to be carried out on his body on Tuesday.

A teenager was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning shortly after the incident took place.

The 18-year-old was being detained on Monday night under section four of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Finglas Garda station.

Mr Mooney had previously received a six-year suspended sentence for threatening to kill the mother of his child in 2008 and to a robbery at a bookmakers on Glasnevin Avenue in 2010.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who were in the Dunsink Lane area between 11.30pm on Sunday and 12.30am on Monday to contact them at 01- 6667500, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
