A teenager was arrested after gardaí found him with an explosive device in Coolock, north Dublin yesterday evening.

The 18-year-old man was stopped and searched by gardaí at about 6.00pm in a series of investigations into criminal activity in the area.

The device was made safe, the area of Ferrycarrig Park was evacuated and traffic restrictions were put in place for public safety. The scene was declared safe at about 7.45pm.

The Army bomb disposal team took the device for further investigation.

The teenager is currently being questioned in Coolock Garda station.
