Three men have been arrested after two attempted robberies in Waterford and Dublin last night.
A man armed with a handgun entered a shop on Cork Road, Waterford at about 11.55pm last night, threatened staff and demanded money.
The alarm was raised and the culprit fled the scene in a dark-coloured car.
No money was taken and no injuries sustained during the incident.
In a follow-up search gardaí arrested two males in their 30s in connection with the incident. A firearm was also recovered.
Both men are being detained at Waterford Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
Separately, a man was arrested at the scene of an attempted robbery at a supermarket on the Malahide Road in Dublin at about 8pm last night.
A lone male raider entered the supermarket, threatened staff and demanded cash.
A security officer at the shop tackled the raider and gardaí were called.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Coolock Garda station.
The man is expected to appear before the Courts of Criminal Justice in Dublin this morning charged in connection with the incident.
