Three viable explosive devices have been made safe by an Army bomb disposal team in Limerick.

The improvised devices were discovered in an unoccupied house in a rural area in Ballysheedy this morning, a Defence Forces spokesman said.

Gardaí requested the bomb disposal team after they found a number of suspicious objects during a search.

“Due to the location, there was no requirement to evacuate other properties but a cordon was put in place for public safety,” the spokesman said.

The team arrived at 6am and rendered the devices safe without the need for a controlled explosion.

Items were handed over to the gardaí to assist them in their investigation.

The area was declared safe at 7.30am and the team returned to base.
