Three gardaí were left hospitalised after being attacked during a raid on a house in Co Louth.

The officers were attacked with what is believed to be a knife and had a dog set on them when they attempted to search a house in the Sandpit area near the village Termonfeckin.

The gardaí from Ardee station were acting on a drugs warrant when they went into the property.

A Garda spokesman said a struggle ensued and the officers received lacerations to their hands and arms. They were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda and were later released.
