Three men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery on a post office in Co Louth on Monday.

The men, one armed with a sawn-off shotgun, threatened post office staff and demanded money.

They were arrested as they left the post office in Clogherhead 11.45am with a sum of money and were confronted by gardaí.

After a struggle one of the men was detained.

Two other men were arrested a short time later and the gun and cash recovered. The men who were arrested are aged 24, 25 and 36.

No one was injured during the robbery and arrests.

The men are being questioned at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda stations.

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to the incident, particularly anyone who was in the post office between 11am and noon.
